How to Estimate Your Monthly Commute Mileage
Use a quick calculation to choose the right 1,200- or 1,500-mile monthly allowance.
Start with your work commute
Multiply your one-way commute by two, then multiply by the number of workdays in a typical month. For example, a 20-mile one-way commute across 20 workdays is about 800 miles.
Add personal driving
Include groceries, appointments, school trips, and regular weekend travel. Leave a reasonable cushion so normal life does not push you over your allowance.
NextTier allowances
Essential Commuter includes 1,200 miles each month. Efficiency Plus and Executive & Utility include 1,500 miles. Excess mileage is $0.20 per mile.
